Spend less time driving and more time exploring

We are only 6 kms from the entrance to Wilsons Promontory National Park. A perfect base for you to explore this amazing place. There are a variety of walks listed below. Please check local conditions before you set out. Make sure you are prepared carry enough food and water, good comfortable shoes are a must as is appropriate clothing. Remember there is no such thing as cold weather just poor clothing choices.

Mount Oberon Summit

Starting from the Telegraph Saddle car park, this iconic Prom walk follows the management vehicle track up Mount Oberon. Steps below the rocky summit lead to postcard perfect, panoramic views over Tidal River, the coast and offshore islands. Be prepared – even in summer months the summit can be windy, cool and clouded. Beware of unprotected cliffs.
The 6.8 km walk will take around 2 hours return. Grade: Moderate/hard.

Lilly Pilly Gully Nature Walk

Go on a family-friendly walk through heathland before you find yourself walking among tall eucalpyt trees. Follow the boardwalk through the shady rainforest, where you can admire lush ferns and a trickling creek. Look closely and tread quietly to discover a variety of flora and fauna.

The 5.2km nature walk takes around an hour and a half return and is perfect for families with kids and people with limited mobility. The track is predominantly compacted sand, relatively flat and easy-going with a good pram.

Big Drift

Just inside the entrance to Wilsons Prom, the Big Drift Walk is accessed from Stockyard Campground. Follow the management vehicle track along the park boundary to the northern flank of Big Drift. Scale the sand dune to find expansive views of the ever-changing dunes. The inland dunes provide an exceptional place for photography, both day and night. They are home to an array of stunning wildlife. Sports such as sand dune surfing can open up new experiences for the adrenaline seekers too.

Whiskey Bay

Follow the track from Whisky Bay Carpark along the creek line before passing over the sand dunes to the picturesque Whisky Bay. Granite boulders, distinctive of the Prom, frame this sheltered beach.

A Grade 2 trail and an easy 400m walk, one way.

Walk to nearby Picnic Beach or continue along the Three Bays Track to Tidal River. Toilets are located at the carpark.

This beach is unpatrolled.

Wilsons Prom Wildlife Viewing Area

The Prom Wildlife Viewing Area is a great location to spot kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and emus. Please don’t tempt them closer with food as they can become a danger to you and the human food a danger to their health.

Visitor Tips: Visitors are advised to pull off to the side of the road when viewing wildlife. There are no toilets here; the closest are 5km away at Darby River carpark.

Darby Beach Walk

Beginning at Darby River Carpark, a sandy track follows Darby River as it winds its way to the sea. The small exposed beach is embraced at either end by rocky headlands and ancient dunes and its a great place to see shore birds.

This easy Grade 2 track is 1.1 km, 20 minutes one way.

Visitor Tips: This beach is subject to strong currents and surf and the beach is not patrolled. Do not climb the fragile sand dunes and unstable sandstone cliffs. Toilets are available at the Darby River Carpark.
