Our local gippy girl and exceptional Park Manager, Jess, shares “insider” tips and must do hikes!

The Vereker Outlook Climb The views back towards Darby Saddle and the coastline are incredible.
The Tidal Overlook Loop Insider Tip: The Army Commando Memorial near the start/end of the track.
Little Oberon Bay Don’t just stop at Norman Beach, keep going, theres incredible views back toward the islands.
Look Up for Black Cockatoos (My Fave)Â Keep your ears open for the distinct “cree-cree” call.
The Best Post-Hike Soak Big day on your feet? Go to Tidal River, the tannin-rich water is surprisingly soothing for tired legs.
Hot Tips:
1. Keep your distance from our animals. Sit quietly and let them move around you. Itâs about listening, not chasing.
2. Donât leave without a decent jacket and sturdy boots. Even on a blue-sky day, the wind at the top of the lookouts can be fierce.
3. Lastly, keep the National Park pristine. I always pack a small bag for any stray litter I find. Leaving it better than we found it is part of the Prom soul.

Rain at the Prom is something to experience. Misty mountains, empty beaches, long lunches, and slow mornings back at camp. With the right jacket (and the right mindset), a rainy weekend here can be even better than sunshine.
Day 1 â Arrive & Get Cosy
Arrive at BIG4 Wilsons Prom Holiday Park
Visit Yanakie General store for dinner supplies
Put the kettle on or open a bottle of wine
Listen to the rain roll in across corner inlet
Whip out a board game (try the game ‘sequence’)
Day 2 â Misty Prom + Long Lunch Stops
Head into Wilsons Promontory National Park
The Prom in the rain = moody, quiet, and almost empty
Short rainforest walks (Lilly Pilly Gully is perfect in the wet)
Scenic drives, stopping between showers
Quick beach stops for dramatic ocean views
Afternoon:
On your way back, make it a slow food + drink afternoon:
đ· Waratah Hills Vineyard
Wine tasting with incredible coastal views (even better when itâs moody)
đ Gurney’s Cider
Relaxed, small-batch cider stop
â Wander through Fish Creek
Cafés, galleries, little shops
Day 3 â Slow Morning or One Last Adventure
Sleep in
Coffee + breakfast at camp
Watch the weather roll through
Quick wet-weather walk (with a good jacket = completely worth it)
Or try a bit of fishing around Yanakie / Corner Inlet
Quiet, peaceful, and often better in light rain
Kids: head to reception and our rec room for colouring activities, wildlife bingo and more!
My name is Mel and I am part of the reception team here at BIG4 Wilsons Prom Holiday Park. As a local, I have to share some of my insiders must do’s. Wilsons Prom is wild, coastal and full of those âwowâ moments you donât forget. Whether youâre heading off with family or a group of friends, thereâs something here for everyone.
For hiking lovers, youâre spoiled for choice. One of my absolute favourites is the hike to Little Oberon Bay. You follow the cliffs, with sweeping ocean views below, itâs the kind of walk where youâll stop more than once just to take it all in. A couple of other great hikes are the Tidal Overlook Circuit out to Pillar Point.
Wildlife is part of the magic here. The Prom Wildlife Walk is a must-do. Theres wombats, wallabies, emus, kangaroos⊠theyâre all out and about, especially around dusk. Itâs one of those rare places where you feel completely immersed in nature.
Whisky Bay is a personal favourite of mine. It’s calm, scenic and perfect for a wander. And of course, you canât miss Squeaky Beach, famous for the sand that literally squeaks under your feet.
For something truly special, set the alarm early or stay out late and tackle Mount Oberon Summit walk. Itâs a bit of an uphill push, but the reward is huge… panoramic views across the entire Prom. Sunrise and sunset up there are next level.
When you need a break, swing by the Tidal River Visitor Centre Kiosk for a coffee, hot chocolate or a bite to eat. Its just what you need after a big walk.
If youâre keen to see the Prom from a different angle, a boat tour with Wanderer Adventures is unforgettable. Keep your eyes peeled!! You might spot whales, seals, dolphins, or even eagles soaring above.
The Prom really is something special. Rugged coastlines, incredible wildlife, and views that stop you in your tracks. Itâs one of those places you just have to experience for yourself. Once you do, it wonât be your last visit.
